The Three Spies
Spies in Portugal? Just like in the movies, yes!
It was during the Second World War that Portugal created the conducive environment that made Lisbon, and even Estoril, a hub for the operations and movements of spies from the secret services of practically all the countries involved in the war. It's true!
Portugal had assumed a neutral position during the war, and its geographic location, in western Europe, kept it away from the chaos of daily attacks and destruction. Additionally, it had a maritime port in Lisbon, with the newly completed Gares Marítimas de Alcântara and Rocha do Conde de Óbidos, and connections to the colonial empire (from Asia, Africa to the American continent), through which refugees, who most of the time arrived in Lisbon by train, could leave.
